Research suggests a picture of someone's face results in a first impression and judgement about that person being formed within 39 milliseconds. That's right - 39 milliseconds - we form an opinion about someone in less time than it takes us to blink. What's more interesting and particularly relevant for online dating is that the longer we take looking at someone's picture, the more negative our judgements about that person become. Collectively, these two findings tell us that our first picture on Tinder or Bumble is the primary source of evidence that people rely when they are deciding to swipe right. Furthermore, we can also use this information to suggest that if the first picture doesn't promote an impulsive swipe (causing them to browse our full profile) then we are less likely to get swiped on by that person.

In other words and in simple english: the first picture is the money shot. It's the picture that decides whether you're attractive or not. The other pictures on your profile and your write up are just there to encourage a swipe on those don't impulsively swipe right on you (remember, the more time they spend browsing, the less likely they are to swipe right).
